Baroque is a unique and particularly unforgiving action RPG which only resilient gamers will enjoy. However if you can get past the sometimes harsh nature of the games design you are in for a hell of a ride and a very satisfying experience.

The most important detail is that death is permanent. That is, if you die you are returned to the start of the game and your character is back to level 1 and all the items you were carrying are lost in the void (although there are rare moments throughout the levels where you can send unused items to be stored at the start point of the game). Don't get any ideas about avoiding death either, it occurs often and can be shockingly sudden. The maze structure is random every time you enter and the protagonists complete reliance on the random items he can scavenge keep things interesting as you enter the tower again and again and slowly but surely begin to unravel the plot. At first you'll have no idea what is going on but as the tale unravels a really good story emerges.

Overall Baroque is an excellent title but not one for the lazy gamer!
